Portsmouth is located in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area of the U.S. State of Virginia. It is home to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, an historic and active U.S. Navy facility that builds, remodels, and repairs Navy ships of all types.

Portsmouth is an historic port town with an Olde Towne featuring a large collection of historically significant homes. Historic sites include the 1825 Hill House, the Cedar Grove Cemetery and the The "Path of History" links two of the nation's oldest Navy facilities, the Naval Medical Center and the Naval Shipyard, both in Portsmouth.
