Gairlochy, Lochaber, Scotland

Gairlochy is a hamlet located on the southern shores of Loch Lochy, a large freshwater loch in the district of Lochaber in the North West Highlands of Scotland. Gairlochy is surrounded by several other small crofting settlements, the largest of which is Achnacarry.

An overflow from Loch Lochy was created here during the building of locks on the Caledonian Canal, the diverted water plummeting into the River Spean over artificial waterfalls. In 1960 the Mucomuir hydro-electric power station beside the falls was built.. The Great Glen Cycle Route passes through Gairlochy.
