Tonnerre, Burgundy, France

Tonnerre is a commune in the Yonne department in Burgundy in north-central France. It is located on the Burgundy canal. One of the few places along the canal where you will find vineyards. Epineuil with Pinot noir. Tonnerre et de Molosmes, white chardonnay.

La Fosse Dionne, in the centre of the old town is a water source, the second deepest in France, the continual supply of water has long mystified people and is well worth a visit. In 1758 it was converted into a "Lavoire".

The medieval hospital complex (Hotel-Dieu) was constructed at the end of the 13th century and at that time one of the largest in France. The impressive interior of the complex includes a museum and has been furnished as a typical hospital interior of the epoch with period recreations. Outside there is a small park area running the length of the complex. There is also a grand 19th century addition adjacent to the main building.
