Biarritz and Bayonne lie adjacent to each other on the Bay of Biscay, on the Atlantic coast, in southwestern France. Bayonne is on France’s southwest coast adjacent to Spain. The river Nive divides Bayonne into Grand Bayonne and Petit Bayonne, with five bridges between the two. Grand Bayonne is the commercial and civic hub, with small pedestrianised streets packed with shops, plus the cathedral and Hôtel de Ville. Petit Bayonne is lively with Basque bars and restaurants more reminiscent of cities the other side of the Pyrenees.
Biarritz is a large town with several quarters and is one of the principal resorts on the Côte Basque, and probably the most famous part of the Pays Basque. It's a vibrant cosmopolitan town with magnificent beaches, golf courses and numerous sporting facilities, and great surf.

The Biarritz train station is 3 km from the town centre and buses arrive on square d'Ixelles, in the centre of Biarritz. There are buses from Bayonne, Anglet, Pau, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Hendaye and some trans-border buses from Spain.
Biarritz is very pedestrianised, and it is easy to get around the town centre, to the beaches, and to the best spots for surfing or shopping. There is an excellent bus network, including Bayonne and Anglet.
