Puerto Williams, Chile

Puerto Williams is a Chilean port, located on Isla Navarino facing the Beagle Channel. It is the capital of the Chilean Antarctic Province, one of four provinces located in the Magellan and Chilean Antartica Region. The population includes both naval personnel and civilians and many of the houses in Puerto Williams belong to the Armada de Chile Chilean Navy.

Puerto Williams is the southernmost city of the world and the jumping off point for Antarctica. Located on Navarino Island, it was once inhabitaed by Yanganes Indians and other nomads who sailed through the southern channels in search of game and fish.

Transport Links – Access is by daily air service provided by Aerovías DAP or by weekly ro-ro ferry 'Bahia Azul' from Punta Arenas, 350 kilometres to the north. In the summer months it is also possible to reach PeurtoWilliams by either the RIB 'Calafate' which connects Ushuaia with Puerto Navarino or by chartered light aircraft. Berths can sometimes be found on yachts sailing between the two ports.
