La Maddalena, Italy

La Maddalena is the largest town in the Maddalena archipelago, just 2 kilometres from the northeastern shore of Sardinia and sitting in the Straits of Bonifacio, between it and Corsica. The island has a triangular shape, with nearly 45 kilometres of generally high and jagged coasts and a rich vegetation. The diffused reddish colour of the rocks and the soil together with the limpid water create a fascinating contrast of colours. The best views on the island can be found at its highest point, Monte Guardia Vecchia (156 m).

La Maddalena is the island for everyone: summer cruise ships can berth in Gala Gavetta (tourist port of the village); divers can explore wonderful sea beds and swim amongst a myriad of sea life. There are isolated areas for hiking or camping, and beautiful beaches for swimming. Local Craftsmen offer hand-woven carpets, filigree and coral jewels, pottery ware and wood carvings.
