Moreover, on the edge of the Golden Mountains, the course of the Saone to approach Neuville is somehow a bottleneck.

Occupied since the Neolithic and then the Romans, the village is equipped with fortifications in the Middle Ages and in 1630, the archbishop of Lyon acquires a residence.

Meanwhile, from the fifteenth century, the river port is a step for cargo vessels connecting Lyon to Chalon. This boosts local trade and industrial units (including textiles) enhance the prosperity of the town.

Today, with nearly 7500 inhabitants, Neuville-sur-Saône continues to enjoy the attractions of the Saône and its associative and cultural dynamism as the development of its built and natural heritage make it a stage of interest near Lyon, Beaujolais and Dombes.
