Bremen is a Hanseatic city in northwestern Germany. It is located some 60 km (37 mi) south from the Weser mouth on the North Sea and is a commercial and industrial city with a major port on the river Weser. Bremen is one of two towns belonging to the state of Bremen.

Bremen has over 1200 years of history. Many of the sights in Bremen are found in the Altstadt (Old Town), an oval area surrounded by the Weser River, on the southwest, and the Wallgraben, the former moats of the medieval city walls, on the northeast. The oldest part of the Altstadt is the southeast half, starting with the Marktplatz and ending at the Schnoor quarter.

Port Location – The Columbus Cruise Center is located in Bremerhaven, approximately 2km from the city center.

Travel Links – Bremen airport is in the south-west of the town and offers flights to most bigger German cities and some European destinations. It's easily accessible by public transport (tram line 6, about 16 minutes from the city center) and by car. Major carriers are OLT, Ryanair and Lufthansa.

There is a direct bus link from Bremen to Groningen. Buses leave from Bremen Central bus station (next to the train station), Hugo-Schauinsland-Platz. Eurolines has connection between Bremen and lots of other cities in Europe.

Regular and frequent services connect Bremen with the rest of Germany. There are two trains every hour to Hamburg in the north and Osnabrück, Münster and the Ruhr Area in the South as well as to Hanover.
