Rapa, Austral Islands

Rapa is one of the Austral Islands, the southernmost group of islands in French Polynesia, 1,420 km to the south of Tahitit, in the South Pacific. Geographically, the Austral Islands consist of two separate archipelagos; the Tubuai islands and the Bass islands.

Rapa is a mountainous island with a well protected central bay. Its inhabitants live mainly at Aore which has a Mayor's office, a church, a post office, a school, an infirmary and a cooperative. The island also features ancient ruins, fortresses and , its proud "pa" surrounded by the beautiful dry stone walls that crown its volcanic ridges.
