Cold Bay, Alaska

Cold Bay is a city in Aleutians East Borough, Alaska, United States. It functions as a hub for traffic from Anchorage and Seattle to the small communities around it, and continues to serve as an emergency runway for aircraft flying through the North Pacific.

Cold Bay is renowned for its rugged wilderness and as an entry point to the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, home to feeding and resting grounds for hundreds of thousands of birds.

The waters around the refuge are populated with harbor seal, sea otter, walrus and Steller's sea lion. Wildlife viewing is also popular and includes one of the highest brown bear densities in the world.
