Kennedy Is, Solomons

Kennedy Island is a tiny uninhabited island in the Solomon Islands that was named after John F. Kennedy. JFK is said to have swum there with his injured crew after his boat, the PT-109, was rammed by the Japanese Destroyer Amagiri in World War II. The island itself lies 15 minutes by boat from the provincial capital of the Western Province, Gizo.

The island is popular for diving and snorkeling and now features an annual Kennedy swim attracting overseas and local open water swimmers.
