Milne Bay, Papua New Guinea

Milne Bay is the easternmost inlet on the coast of Papua New Guinea and gives good access to coral reefs and diving. The Gummi River runs into the Bay which has plantations on its south and west shores while the north shore is steep and rugged.

Alotau is the capital of the Milne Bay Province, which lies at the most south-eastern tip of PNG. It is a very scenic town on the north shore of Milne Bay. It is a quiet, friendly town, and operates successfully as a scuba diving base.

The Milne bay area offers trekking, bird watching, bat caving, fishing, diving, snorkelling, war sites, surfing and cultural sites of interest. The province has excellent conditions for divers and snorkellers. There are orchids, marsupials, birds of paradise, mountains, islands, rainforest, waterfalls, hot springs and skull caves as well as an intriguing local history.

Transport Links - Jackson's International Airport is the gateway of Papua New Guinea, situated about 8km away from the main town center of Port Moresby. Mt Hagen Provincial Airport has been declared International Port of entry because of the mining activities around the Highland provinces.

Daily flights are available from Port Moresby to Gurney airport at Alotau. There are weekly flights from Popondetta to Alotau.
