Russell, New Zealand

Russell is an historic seaside town located in the Bay of Islands, in the far north of New Zealand’s north island. Russell was the first capital of New Zealand and one of its first European settlements. The town’s history can be traced in its museum, which displays information and artifacts from the first European settlers, whaling and marine history.

Russell has a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes which offer world class cuisine and local wines. Historic buildings to visit include the Catholic Mission "Pompallier" and Christ Church, which still carries the bullet holes from the Maori Wars.
