Elfin Cove, Alaska

Elfin Cove is an isolated boardwalk community situated at the base of a protected inlet on Chicagof Island in southeast Alaska. Situated on Cross Sound, it is the northernmost entrance to the world-renowned Inside Passage. The area is renowned for good fishing and spectacular scenery, and is protected from wide-open ocean by several islands of historical interest from World War II.

Boardwalks and trails connect everything at Elfin Cove. Most structures are multilevel due to the scarcity of private land, and many structures are built on pilings over the water. The community becomes active during the summer when local businesses serve the commercial fishing fleet and guests fill the sportfishing lodges.

Elfin Cove offers year round bottom fish and halibut fishing as well as salmon fishing in season. Kayaking the protected waters is popular along with viewing the abundant wildlife, hiking and beach combing.

Glacier Bay National Park is an hour’s boat ride from Elvin Cove and Tongass National Forest is within walking distance. Port Althorp Bear Preserve, the Port Althorp Cannery site and the World War II cannon emplacement on George’s Island are all within 20 minutes by boat.
