Ventotene, Italy

Ventotene is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the coast of Campania, Italy. It is the remains of an ancient volcano, and is part of the Pontine Islands. The island is elongated, with a length of 3 kilometres and a maximum width of about 800 metres. Santo Stefano is located 2 kilometres to the east, and Ponza is 40 kilometres to the west.

Attractions include the sea with its crystal-clear waters and rich and varied marine life, the volcanic rocks, the fragrant colourful Mediterranean maqius and the birds that stop here on their long migratory journeys. The abandoned prison can be visited on neighbouring Santo Stefano. However the greatest attraction is the tranquility that Ventotene offers.
